MAGAZINE ADS
& POSTERS

Various // Design & Execution // 1 Day - 1 Week

Every once in a while an event, a rebrand, a grand opening, or even just a single promotion is so important the rollout needs to be exhaustive. Many times those include one-off magazine ads, event posters, flyers, or even autograph cards.

While such types of marketing assets can create complications such as print house deadlines, distribution, placement, etc. they're truly a measure of well-executed design communication. With print/editorial designs, there are no captions under the picture to explain what's going on, there are no comment boxes to clarify any misunderstandings, and they aren't :30s long meaning you can't skip over any mistakes and rather you can analyze even the smallest detail to exhaustion.

In an age of instant gratification, posters and magazine ads are truly a throw-back.

Mag-Covers-Rec
Magazine Ads

Throughout my career, there's always been at least one or two ads I've created that would eventually be published in a magazine or journal. These are a compilation of ads I've had the pleasure of creating that have made it onto those magazines, as well as one-off fliers I've created for events or promotions.

With the first expansion, under the new management team, WTT wanted to make a splash by signing a big name. Rumor had it Redfooo was a huge tennis fan and even played a little. It was the opportunity WTT & the Vegas Rollers were looking for. In order to add a little more flare to the announcement, I made both this ad and :: a promo video :: in typical Redfoo fashion, loud & disruptive! The ads were a hit and ticket sales soured!

Copy, Copy, Copy! A particular challenge when a GM asks for all players in one graphic is always finding a way to showcase them without disrupting the flow of the graphic. For this particular exercise, not only did I have to showcase all the players but the copy referred to a few different things. On the one hand, it helped me separate the graphic into blocks, on the other... there were so many blocks! Oh, can't forget sponsor logos and season dates too. Thankfully, the chaotic nature of the Vegas Rollers creative direction I had already established helped guide this graphic into a packed but easily digestible ad!

Another challenge when a GM asks for all players in one graphic is finding ways to showcase them in a natural, seamless and unforced way. An added challenge to this particular brief was conveying Madison Keys as the main draw, followed by Feliciano Lopez as the robin to her batman. Lastly, dates, website, tagline, and player names had to be included.  Quite the mouthful but well worth it!
