PIONEER
TRAVEL

For the cover design, I wanted to capture the non-conformist spirit of travelers who pave the way rather than follow it. Starting out with the image treatment, I used photoshop to layer various nostalgic images that represented the spirit of travel, adventure, and the unknown.

To convey the illusion of the traveler pioneering into the unknown, I used a mirror pattern backdrop.  The title "Pioneer" was a custom typography I developed in illustrator using nothing but three shapes. For the inside spreads, "Shock City" was the tag we had to use. Given this information, my intent was to give the title movement and power through bold lettering and a loud color.

As for the layout, to represent the "industrial" feel of the article, I picked a monotype font and a mixture of vertical and horizontal patterns within the layout and as part of the typesetting.
